Test images for my application to Kyoto Art Center’s 2026 residency, taken during a visit in 2024.

These consist of two exposures each: one in focus, one blurry. The idea is to play with our feeling that we remember things well, but really we don’t.

The city is now so over-touristed that it can be hard to know what the city really is. By producing images and ambient sound recordings of the city late at night or early morning, I hope to evoke memories of the city as it was, but also question whether our memories are truthful.

If exhibited, these will be accompanied by ambient sound recordings of the city at night, when quiet, blending into sounds of the mid-day tourists.
